California Continues to Pile Mandates on Small Business

There seems to be no end to employment leave bills. Even with the expansion brought about by SB 1383, California’s Legislature continues to enact more and more unfunded mandates on small businesses.

In a recent SacTown Talks panel discussion, Tom Sheehy, Principal and Founder of Sheehy Strategy Group, says that most small businesses do not have a human resources director to sort through all the paperwork. This makes business owners worried, and rightly so when they could miss a policy update and get dragged to court over a simple oversight. There are simply too many policies for any one person to track.

Fellow panelist John Kabateck, California State Director for the National Federation of Independent Business, says that all these leave bills make small businesses want to leave the state.
